This started off after watching D20 and Brennan Lee Mulligan run some campaigns. I missed D&D and wanted to play. Of course with COVID restrictions and not knowing any players made that difficult.
So, I started my own little world and found some players online. So far it has been fun creating the world and watching it change. It is based on 5e D&D and runs races and rules using the pantheon and realm of Faerun. Or, to put it another way, it's Faerun, but with my map.
This allows me the freedom to make new areas or interactions between kingdoms fluid and ultimately dynamic. Faerun is WotC property and I cannot change the rulership of say Calimport to suit my needs if the players nuke the land. In Odir, I can.
So, what does this mean for players? My best example right now is how a group of players freed some Lizardfolk from their dragon overlord and became their de facto leaders. They convinced the Lizardfolk to give up their chaotic evil ways. Now they're just lawful evil, but they don't eat people as often now!
I began somewhere in the 90s with D&D 2nd edition and some Vampire/White Wolf stuff. Even, branched out into RIFT and GURPS and Robotech. Remember SDC and MDC? I 'memby.
I picked playing RPGs back up again in the mid-2000s. D&D 3rd and 3.5 were my favorites. I did do some Star Wars adventuring. That was fun, too.
Recently picked this stuff back up during Covid quarantine. I learned the digital playing format. Played with Foundry VTT and settled on Roll20.
So now I think about nifty things I want to do, play around in my own world, and then release my world on players. So far, I think they've done well. I've hit speed bumps, had players quit, drop, ghost even. But still, can't let that stop me and I have to appreciate the ones that stick around.
If you're a fan of weird ideas, long, interconnected storylines, and voices, I can probably be your DM.
